MAKING BADASS DESIGN SINCE 1988
&Bloom is the moniker of Jack Bloom, the greatest visual designer to walk the earth in the history of man, ever. The main goal behind this website is to convince potential clients and creatives that I have something to offer, which is more than just a pretty face. As a designer, I believe in the development of visual communication with the forethought of form, function, method, and Idea; this is how I do what I do.
This is what I do.
DESIGN
Design is one of the main draws for me in the creative field. It has one of the largest histories in regard to communication, and because of that it speaks to me on a deeper level than just beautiful typefaces mixed together with interesting graphics. There is a genuine human quality about the communicative tool known as graphic design.
DEVELOP
Along with being able to design for the web I also like to develop. Coding is somewhat on a parallel with design, both involve problem solving and a greater knowledge of something other than a superficial, visual understanding. Development is a key factor for the future of design as more and more technologies are born and print slowly transfers to a digital means.
DRAW
Of course, if you are going to get into design one must be able to draw. My childhood revolved around drawing, it was one of my main means of escape. Drawing is still one of my primary tools for working out design problems and is always the first place I start any project. For me, a well rendered sketch is worth more than a printed page from some magazine or a nicely designed business card.
COOK?
I definitely love to cook, it is one of my favorite things to do outside of design. Cooking to me is about time management, pairing, and honing taste buds. It also helps me think about projects from a different perspective. Building a good meal is a lot like creating a nice magazine spread. There are a lot of things to put together, but they have to taste well, or look good on the same page for it to work.
This week I decided to focus my attention on a single project. Monday night I watched Howl’s Moving Castle, a beautiful piece of storytelling and hand drawn animation. Anyway, after watching this movie I decided it was time to devote a whole week to this poster. Next week will be Princess Mononoke. As far as…MORE PLEASE!
Taking the ordinary and making it strange I don’t believe anything here should be used for commerical purposes, that being said; please enjoy the following works.
