challenge

Design a brand and interactive experience for a blockchain technology that combines charitable donations and the power of transparency with the ledger. All within 48 hours.

role

Art Director, Brand Designer, Interactive Designer

client

Consensys: Host and sponsor of a 2017 Blockchain Hackathon in North Carolina.

BRANDING
Our inspiration started with the Serval, a beautiful African cat. It’s pelt directly influenced the visual language.

Brand Palette

With the creation of the visual language, we wanted something that spoke to the recipients of donations. We created a protocol for the blockchain called Quilt.

Visual Language
Quilt protocol is two parts, one: ledger tracking, and two: procedurally generated visuals. Each quilt piece is attached to a user which is displayed on the Servall site.

Illustration

One of the challenges of branding a blockchain concept is creating a sense of communication through illustration without getting overly intricate in design. So a more simple and somewhat abstract approach was chosen for the hackathon, this helped ensure quick delivery and consistency in the branding.

Interactive

We intended on building a small marketing site to flesh out the brand further, but time did not permit. 48 hours is a lot shorter thank you think!

We did however get a small interactive demo out the door. The UX is built from Venmo to further push reality of the concept. A working prototype was coded and built for the app store.

Our team ended up getting 1st place out of 7 other teams. It was a jolly ole time and some sweet sweet bragging rights.
Huge thanks to my rag-tag gang
