It’s September, and every year, this month feels like the end of a chapter. Perhaps it’s similar to how many people feel on January 1st, signaling one year’s end and another’s start.

January doesn’t mean much to me; winter is not my season. And while I love autumn—one of the most beautiful seasons for nature, alongside spring—summer’s warmth is what I adore the most. Still, my mind is buzzing with plans for the next few months. My to-do list is slowly getting longer, filled with only fun things, and sometimes I scratch my head and wonder where I will find the time because from now until the end of the year, there are only four months left. Before we know it, Christmas will be here.
Here in the Netherlands, we celebrate “Sinterklaas” on December 5th. This tradition is filled with cookies and sweets that have already appeared in the supermarkets for weeks (and yes, I’ve already indulged, haha). This early reminder of a children’s celebration that doesn’t arrive until early December gives me a sense of urgency and a strong desire to accomplish everything I want before December arrives.
