There are worse questions to get at my age than “what are you doing with your skin?” especially when it’s followed by “because it looks so good.”

So I thought I would share the story.

Because skincare, at least for me, is never just about what you put on your face. It is a mix of what happens inside your body, outside your body, and sometimes a little help from science. And a good dermatologist.

Think of it as a small ecosystem with hormones, skincare, lifestyle, treatments and sometimes a bit of patience.

The Influence of Hormones: HRT and My Skin & Hair

About six months ago I started HRT, hormone replacement therapy.

And yes, I gained a few kilos.

Not just on the thighs but also on the cheeks. My face apparently decided it deserved a little extra padding too. Let’s call it nature’s version of filler.

But here is the interesting part.

Science shows that estrogen plays an important role in our skin. It helps improve hydration, thickness and elasticity by stimulating collagen production.

Which is good news because during menopause we can lose up to 30 percent of our collagen in the first five years. Slightly terrifying statistics, but luckily our bodies and modern medicine still have a few tricks up their sleeves.

And my hair?

Definitely fuller and shinier.

Estrogen helps keep hair in the growth phase longer, which can reduce hair loss and improve overall hair quality. So if you see me flipping my hair a little more dramatically these days, now you know why.

So yes, those slightly fuller cheeks might be a mix of extra kilos and better hydrated skin.

Personally I am choosing the second explanation.

My Daily Ritual: Inbar & Co and Self Care

Beauty From the Inside: Lumity Supplements and Lifestyle

Of course skincare is not only about what you apply externally.

What happens inside your body matters just as much.

For the past six months I have been faithfully taking Lumity supplements, both morning and night.

The night supplement has been a bit of a revelation. I sleep like a baby again. Which after a certain age feels like winning the lottery.

It is probably a combination of HRT and the magnesium in the night formula, known for its relaxing effect. Either way I am not asking too many questions. I am just enjoying the sleep.

The morning supplement contains vitamins like C and E, minerals such as zinc and selenium and Omega 3, which support collagen production and protect cells from oxidative stress.

Basically small capsules, big support system.

And then there are the basics we all know but sometimes conveniently forget.

Exercise, hydration and nourishing food.

Since January 1st we have been following what we call a health diet at home.

That does not mean eating less. It simply means eating better and choosing foods that truly nourish your body.

I started 2026 at 70 kilos, about eight kilos more than the year before. Thank you perimenopause and HRT, teamwork.

The scale now says 68 kilos and seems to be staying there for a while.

Not ideal, but my cheeks are definitely enjoying it.

That said, weight is absolutely not the most important thing. What really matters is how you feel in your body. Your energy, your strength, your wellbeing.

But let’s also be honest. I do quite like still fitting into my clothes.

So no, I am not letting things go completely unchecked. I just keep an eye on it without becoming obsessive about it.

Especially since it is quite well known that HRT and perimenopause can bring a few extra kilos along with them. It is simply part of this phase of life.

As for exercise, I aim for three weight training sessions a week.

In reality it is usually two.

But two is still better than zero and that is my current fitness philosophy.

The Power of Professional Treatments: Morpheus8 and IPL

If I am completely honest about what has made my skin so much better, the Morpheus8 and IPL treatments I did last year probably played a big role.

I had four Morpheus8 sessions and four IPL treatments and these are exactly the kind of treatments where the results appear gradually over time.

A Holistic Approach to Skin

For me skincare has become a holistic process.

Hormones, skincare, supplements, treatments and lifestyle all work together.

There is no single miracle product. But when all the pieces start supporting each other, that is when the magic happens.

What works for me may not be exactly the same for you, but I hope sharing my journey inspires you to explore what works best for your own skin.

Because beauty may come from within.

But a little help from the outside is always welcome too.

Preferably with a serum, a good night’s sleep and maybe a facial cup.
