Amsterdam has a way of calling you back. Even though I live outside the city these days — surrounded by peace, trees, and the comfort of home — I still find myself drawn into Amsterdam almost every week.

Sometimes it’s for work, sometimes for a coffee date with a dear friend, sometimes simply because I miss the rhythm of the city: the soft light, the water moving along the canals, and the endless beauty tucked into every corner.

For many of my readers, Amsterdam is a destination; for me, it’s a familiar companion. A city that always feels welcoming, inspiring, and full of possibility. And because so many of you ask where to sleep, what to see, where to eat, and how to enjoy the city the way a stylish, grown woman does, here is your complete, sassy, elegant guide.

Before we dive in, let’s talk weather (because… the Netherlands). Amsterdam is lovely year-round, but it’s at its most magical from April to October, when the days are long and terraces are buzzing. Spring gives the canals soft pink blossoms, summer brings a gentle warmth, and autumn paints the whole city in gold. Even rainy days have charm, Amsterdam does a cozy café escape like no other.

Now, let’s plan your weekend.

What to See

Culture for the Soul

Take your time. Choose one or two museums. Let them sink in.

Rijksmuseum

Dutch art history in one breathtaking building.

Van Gogh Museum

Emotional, intimate, unforgettable.

Foam Photography Museum

Always fresh, modern, and inspiring.

MOCO

Banksy, Warhol, and modern icons; a great entry into contemporary art.

Anne Frank House

Moving and essential — book ahead.

Museum Van Loon

And my absolute personal favourite. A historic canal house filled with elegance, art, stories and a quiet grace that feels almost cinematic. The house itself is beautiful, but the garden, a hidden gem in the centre of the city, peaceful and utterly gorgeous. You step outside and suddenly the city noise fades, it feels like being let into a secret.

How to Spend a Weekend

Amsterdam, The AndBloom Way

Friday evening is for settling in. Arrive at your hotel, take your time, breathe in the city, and then wander out for a long, elegant dinner at Jansz. When you’ve finished, stroll along the canals at dusk, this is when Amsterdam feels almost unreal, the water turning shades of blush and gold. If you feel adventurous (and you should), rent a small electric boat and drift through the canals. It’s simple, magical, and gives you the feeling of having the city entirely to yourself.

Saturday is for sinking into the rhythm of Amsterdam. Start with coffee at Toki, ease into the day, and let your morning unfold in the Nine Streets. Shop a little, discover vintage treasures, touch fabrics, try on something unexpected. Pick a museum that speaks to you, whether it’s the grandeur of the Rijksmuseum or the intimacy of the Van Loon house,

and let it feed your soul. In the evening, slip into Café Binnenvisser for uncomplicated, delicious food surrounded by locals. If you want to see more of the city afterward, rent a bike. It’s the most authentic way to experience Amsterdam, and the feeling of cycling along the water at night is unforgettable.

Sunday is for softness. Brunch at Bar Botanique, lush and green and relaxed. Stroll through De Pijp, stop for one last coffee, maybe pick up a final little treasure to take home with you. Let yourself wander slowly, no rush, no schedule. This is the best way to feel the city one last time before leaving.

Amsterdam isn’t a city to conquer, it’s a city to feel. To wander, to soften, to notice its quiet beauty. And whether you’re 40, 50, or gloriously beyond, she has something just for you.
