Last Saturday, I found myself in Amsterdam Noord, surrounded by raw energy, incredible clothes, and a crowd buzzing with excitement.

Last Saturday, I found myself in Amsterdam Noord, surrounded by raw energy, incredible clothes, and a crowd buzzing with excitement.

I was there for a fashion show, but not just any fashion show. I was there to watch my best friend, Dayenne Bekker, bring her dream to life.

Dayenne is the founder of Surrounded by Fashion Idiots — a platform she launched just last year. And let me tell you why this is so incredibly inspiring: Dayenne is 51.

At an age where society often tells women to settle down, play it safe, or stick to what they know, Dayenne did the exact opposite. She looked at the fashion industry, saw too much gatekeeping and too many boxes young designers were forced to fit into, and decided to build her own stage. She followed her heart, completely unapologetically.

It Is Never Too Late to Build Your Dream

We talk a lot on AndBloom about taking up space and aging unapologetically. Dayenne is the living embodiment of that. Starting a completely new initiative at 51 takes guts. It takes vision. It takes a refusal to believe that your biggest, boldest chapters are behind you.

I took so many photos and videos during the show — which you can see below — and looking back at them, I just feel an overwhelming sense of pride. This is what women supporting women looks like. We cheer for each other's wild ideas. We show up. We celebrate the courage it takes to start something new.
