Building AndBloom: A Creative Life, a Growing Shop, and Everything In Between

When I launched AndBloom in 2018, both the Instagram account and the website were meant to be a place for stories. I wanted to create a safe, beautiful corner of the internet where women over 40 could see themselves represented honestly.

The website included a shop function from the beginning, but it never crossed my mind to turn it into a real webshop. For years it just sat there quietly, more of a hidden possibility than an actual plan. That changed in 2022, during my house move. While reorganising my closet and packing boxes, I decided to list a few vintage pieces I no longer wore.
Nothing major, just a handful of treasures that had been part of my wardrobe for years. To my surprise, they sold almost immediately. Around the same time, when I published my first book AndBloom – The Art of Aging Unapologetically, I designed a signature T-shirt to celebrate the launch. Suddenly, one package a week turned into ten, and from there, everything began to grow organically.
In 2023, I designed a teddy cardigan made in Italy, purely for fun. I had no experience and honestly no expectations. Yet that cardigan became a turning point. From that moment forward, the shop evolved from a quiet side project into a daily, thriving business. From day one, I selected, packed, and shipped every order myself, wrapped in my signature colorful wrappings and scent, always with love.
Those early years were intense. I was managing AndBloom the Instagram account with its rapidly growing community while simultaneously building a shop that kept expanding. I was learning, failing, doubting myself, almost wanting to quit (many times) but somehow continuing anyway. It was a full-time balancing act. Earlier this year, I finally admitted something to myself: I wasn’t running one company. I was running two. And that’s without counting the fact that I also published a second book this summer, The Guide, a passion project I photographed entirely at home. You can imagine the chaos at home… hahaha. Both companies operated from my house, which made the experience even more intense and, at the same time, unforgettable.
Fortunately, the shop now has a wonderful team of women supporting the day-to-day work and packing orders with the same care, warmth, and joy I put into every package from the start. I never imagined I would run an online shop or an Instagram community, but life has a way of nudging you exactly where you’re meant to be.
Since moving the shop out of the house on September 1st, I finally feel more balanced between my two favourite things to do each day. I now keep the house as my creative space for Instagram and the blog. In fact, I am writing this from my kitchen table right now. The house is empty, it’s beautifully quiet, and I finally have the space to think.
Instagram remains my creative home. At heart, I am a content creator and a photographer. I love storytelling, visuals, fashion, beauty, and the magic of creating something meaningful. Because I’ve always been surrounded by style, it felt natural to begin designing small collections. I started cautiously in 2023 with one-size items, then expanded to two sizes, and today several pieces, including our jeans, wool sweaters, and basic T-shirts, are available in multiple sizes. Soon we’ll introduce a signature tracksuit, and we’re already working on some beautiful pieces for spring.
I know that over the past two years many women have felt disappointed by the limited sizing, and I completely understand that. I’m proud to say that we’re finally able to expand into more sizes for several items. The truth is that offering more sizes also means carrying larger inventories, and the financial risk simply felt too big for me in the beginning. I needed to grow slowly and responsibly, step by step. But we are getting there, and it feels incredibly good to be able to include more women in the pieces we create with so much love.
Designing, developing, finding producers, and collaborating with partners, mainly in Italy and Portugal, was all new to me and still is. It has been incredibly time-consuming but absolutely worth it. Nothing is more rewarding than inspiring women over 40, a group most fashion brands overlook, with clothing made with care, thoughtfulness, and love. And nothing makes me happier than knowing a woman feels beautiful in something we created.
My business philosophy has stayed the same, and I apply it to both Instagram and the shop: grow slowly, intentionally, and without outside investment. In my view, there is no point in forcing fast growth or pretending you are growing, especially on Instagram, where so many people buy followers. They are always fake and harm your account in the long run. I prefer steady, thoughtful, meaningful growth. Better small and personal than big and impersonal. Even with an Instagram community of almost 1.4 million women worldwide, I still try to maintain personal contact whenever I can, even though answering every DM has become impossible. In the early years, I answered everything, every comment and every message. Because to me, social media should be social, and the most rewarding part of it is real, honest connection.
I am both an entrepreneur and a creative, and over the years I’ve learned to lean into the strengths of both worlds.
And now something very exciting is coming: our first AndBloom lipstick. After years of being asked which shade I wear, I decided to create

Tips & Tricks for Women 40+ Starting a New Career, Business, or Creative Path
Because it’s never too late to begin again, and age is your superpower.
1. Use your age as an advantage, not a limitation
At 40+, you know who you are, what you want, and what no longer fits. This clarity saves time, money, and emotional energy. You make faster, wiser decisions because you’ve lived.
2. Start small, start anywhere, just start
You don’t need a perfect plan or a big investment. One product, one idea, one hour a day is enough. Momentum always begins with small steps.
3. Embrace slow, sustainable growth
Fast growth often leads to fast burnout, especially when juggling family, perimenopause, or multiple jobs. Growing slowly keeps you aligned with your values and protects your wellbeing.
4. Leverage your wisdom and experience
You’ve raised children, managed households, built careers, reinvented yourself, and navigated change. This resilience is entrepreneurial gold. You’re not starting from zero. You’re starting from experience.
5. Let your values guide your decisions
Integrity matters more at this age. Choose work, collaborations, and clients that align with who you truly are.
6. Ask for help and build a support network
You don’t need to do everything alone. Delegate tasks you don’t enjoy. Hire help if possible. Let people support you. It frees space for creativity and energy.
7. Honour your health: kids, work, perimenopause
Some days you’ll feel unstoppable. Other days you’ll need rest, softness, or space. Build a business that supports your health, not one that drains it.
8. Keep learning and stay curious
Follow inspiring women. Read. Study. Try new skills. Learning something new at 40+ is empowering. It reminds you that you are capable of anything.
9. Trust your instincts. They are sharper than ever
That inner voice that grows stronger with age is wisdom. Trust it. It rarely leads you wrong.
10. Remember: it is never too late to begin again
A new career at 45. A business at 50. A creative rebirth at 55. A reinvention at 60. Your age is not a deadline. It is a superpower. You are not behind. You are not late. You are right on time.
Building a business in midlife isn’t a comeback; it’s a continuation of everything you’ve learned. The beauty of starting new adventures after 40 or later in life is knowing exactly what you want and finally having the courage to begin. Midlife isn’t the end of possibilities, it’s the beginning of better ones.

A Few Tips on Energy & Stress Management During Busy Times and Perimenopause
Listen to your body’s rhythms.
Perimenopause often shifts your natural energy patterns. Notice when you feel most focused or calm and plan your heavier tasks during those hours. Honor the dips instead of fighting them.
Build recovery moments into your day.
Even five minutes of quiet, deep breathing, fresh air, or lying down with your eyes closed can reset your nervous system. Tiny pauses prevent big crashes.
Don’t multitask. Do one thing at a time.
Multitasking drains energy fast. Focus on one task, finish it, then move on. It's gentler on your brain and reduces stress dramatically.
Reduce decision fatigue.
Simplify routines: wear your “uniform” outfits, automate recurring tasks, batch similar work. Less thinking equals more energy.
Fuel your body with steady habits.
Keep your blood sugar stable with regular meals and protein-rich snacks. Hydration and sleep matter even more during perimenopause — treat them as non-negotiables.
Ask for help without guilt.
Delegating is not weakness. It’s smart energy management. Whether at home or work, shared responsibility protects your wellbeing.
Move your body, even gently.
A short walk, light stretching, or yoga releases tension and increases mental clarity. You don’t need intense workouts — consistency matters more than intensity.
Protect your boundaries.
Say no when you need to. Create small pockets of personal time, even if it’s just a quiet morning coffee before the day begins.
