A beautiful new address on Gran Vía

There are hotels you simply sleep in, and then there are hotels that become part of the trip. Nômade Temple Madrid is very much the latter.

The hotel sits right in the centre of Madrid, on Gran Vía, inside a beautiful historic building dating back to the early twentieth century. From the moment you step inside, you feel the contrast that makes the hotel so special: the energy of one of Madrid’s busiest streets outside, and a calm, beautifully designed world waiting within.

The building has been thoughtfully reimagined, with its history still present but never feeling old-fashioned. The interiors are warm, layered and full of character. There is a sense of travel, culture and quiet luxury throughout — the kind of place where you want to look around before you even think about checking in.

The room

Our room was beautiful. It felt calm and comfortable, with thoughtful details and just the right amount of personality. The bed was large and wonderfully comfortable, with soft, beautiful bed linen that made it very easy to sleep deeply after a long day of walking around Madrid.

And that is exactly what I want from a city hotel. A room that feels special, but never so precious that you cannot relax. A proper bed, beautiful materials, good light and a sense that someone has thought carefully about how the space should make you feel.

After a day of Madrid’s plazas, museums, shops and restaurants, returning to a room like this was a pleasure in itself.

Dinner in the lobby

We also ate at the hotel, in the lobby, and it was absolutely delicious. There is something very appealing about having dinner in a space that feels both elegant and relaxed. The atmosphere was warm and sociable, the food was beautifully prepared and the setting made the whole evening feel effortless.

It was not one of those hotel restaurants that feels like an afterthought. The lobby has its own rhythm, and dinner there felt like part of the Nômade Temple experience rather than simply the convenient option downstairs.

If you are staying at the hotel, I would definitely make time for a meal here — especially on your first evening, when you may want to settle in without immediately going back out into the city

Cocktails above the rooftops

One of the highlights of the stay was having a cocktail on the rooftop on the seventh floor. Madrid is a city that rewards you from above, and the view from the hotel gives you a completely different feeling from the busy Gran Vía below.

Up there, the city opens out: rooftops, warm evening light, church domes, modern buildings and the constant movement of Madrid in the distance. It is the perfect place for an early-evening drink, especially around sunset, when the light becomes soft and golden.

The rooftop combines views, cocktails and a relaxed atmosphere, and it is exactly the kind of place where one drink can very easily become two. I would book ahead if you are visiting without staying at the hotel, particularly at the weekend.

Breakfast was a dream

Breakfast deserves its own paragraph because it was genuinely wonderful.

There is something luxurious about waking up in a city and knowing that a beautiful breakfast is waiting downstairs. At Nômade Temple, breakfast was generous, delicious and beautifully presented — the kind of breakfast that makes you want to take your time rather than grab a coffee and rush out.

For me, a good hotel breakfast is one of the clearest signs of a thoughtful hotel. Good coffee, fresh ingredients, something healthy, something indulgent and enough choice to make you look forward to the morning. This breakfast had all of that. It was a dream and one of the moments I remember most from the stay.

What to do near Nômade Temple Madrid

The location is one of the hotel’s greatest strengths. Because you are on Gran Vía, many of Madrid’s most beautiful and entertaining places are within easy walking distance.

Walk along Gran Vía Start by simply walking along Gran Vía.

Look up at the grand façades, theatres and ornate details, and then look down at the shops, cafés and constant stream of Madrileños moving through the city.

Gran Vía can be busy, but that is part of the experience. Go early in the morning for a quieter atmosphere, or return after dark when the lights make the avenue feel almost cinematic.

Puerta del Sol

From the hotel, walk towards Puerta del Sol, Madrid’s famous central square. It is lively at almost any hour and a useful starting point for exploring the historic centre.

From here, you can wander through the surrounding streets, stop for a coffee or make your way towards Plaza Mayor.

Plaza Mayor and the old centre

Plaza Mayor is one of Madrid’s essential sights, but the real pleasure is in the streets around it. Take your time, look into the small shops and allow yourself to get slightly lost.

This is the Madrid of traditional façades, old cafés, tiled entrances and little discoveries around every corner.

The Royal Palace

The Palacio Real is an easy walk from the hotel and one of the city’s most impressive landmarks. Even if you do not go inside, the area around the palace is worth exploring, especially the grand Plaza de Oriente and the Sabatini Gardens.

Book tickets ahead if you would like to visit the interior, as it is one of Madrid’s most popular attractions.

Mercado de San Miguel

For a colourful food stop, visit Mercado de San Miguel. It is popular and can be busy, but it is a fun place to sample small bites, Spanish specialities and a glass of something cold.

Go between regular meal times if you prefer a little more space, or treat it as a lively aperitivo stop rather than a formal lunch.

The Prado Museum and the Golden Triangle of Art

If you love art, make time for Madrid’s museum district. The Prado is the obvious masterpiece, with works by Velázquez, Goya, El Greco and many other great European painters.

You can also combine it with the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum or the Reina Sofía. My advice is not to attempt all three in one day. Choose one, enjoy it properly and leave time for a long lunch afterwards.

El Retiro Park

El Retiro is the perfect answer when you need a little green space. Walk beneath the trees, visit the Palacio de Cristal, sit beside the lake or simply find a bench and watch Madrid go by.

It is especially beautiful in the morning or late afternoon, when the light is softer and the park feels less hurried.

Salamanca for elegant shopping

If you are in the mood for beautiful shops, make your way towards Salamanca. Around Calle de Serrano and the surrounding streets, you will find Spanish designers, international fashion, jewellery, shoes and elegant cafés.

It is a good area for women who enjoy quality, beautiful details and a slightly more polished shopping experience.

A rooftop at sunset

Madrid has a wonderful rooftop culture, and you do not have to leave the hotel to enjoy it. Start with a cocktail at Nômade Temple, then choose whether to continue somewhere else or stay for dinner.

The city is at its most seductive from above, just as the sun begins to disappear and the rooftops turn honey-coloured.

A few Madrid tips

Madrid is a city for late lunches, long dinners and wandering without a strict plan. The most enjoyable days usually combine one cultural visit, one beautiful neighbourhood, a good meal and plenty of time simply to sit and watch the city.

Wear comfortable shoes. Madrid is easy to explore on foot, but the distances add up quickly and the best streets are often discovered between the major sights.

Do not eat too early if you want to experience the city like a local. Lunch and dinner both tend to happen later than many visitors expect, and the atmosphere becomes especially lovely in the evening.

Try traditional tapas, but also leave room for Madrid’s more modern food scene. The city is full of excellent restaurants, historic tabernas, creative cafés and elegant hotel bars.

Make reservations for popular restaurants, rooftops and special museum exhibitions. Madrid is wonderfully spontaneous, but the places you most want to visit may not be. Take the metro when you need to cross the city, but walk whenever you can. Madrid’s neighbourhoods each have their own mood, and you miss much of the city’s charm when you travel only between landmarks.

And finally: allow yourself time for an afternoon pause. A coffee, a small pastry, a glass of wine or a quiet hour in your hotel room is not wasted time. It is part of the Madrid experience.

The AndBloom verdict

Nômade Temple Madrid is a hotel for travellers who want more than a practical base. It is beautifully located, thoughtfully designed and full of places to pause: a comfortable room, a delicious lobby restaurant, a rooftop for cocktails and a breakfast worth waking up for.

What I loved most was the balance. The hotel feels stylish but not cold, central but still restful, contemporary but connected to the history of its building. And when you step outside, Madrid is right there — loud, warm, generous and ready for another walk.

If you are planning a long weekend in Madrid and want to stay somewhere with character, comfort and a little bit of glamour, Nômade Temple is a beautiful choice.
